  •  Notes
    • 1. Many records were created about soldiers during the Civil War, the most important being the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls that listed every soldier who served in every unit. In 1886, after the war, these handwritten "muster rolls" were set in type and printed in two large volumes; they show a great deal of information on every regiment and company, and every soldier. Volume II and an Alphabetical Index are also available.
